Allback Linseed Oil Paint

Linseed Oil Paint Origins & History

Allback Linseed Oil Company Info

The Hans & Sonja Allbäck Journey

In 1982, we started renovating windows and treated them both indoors and out with well-known and recommended paints from Sweden’s major paint manufacturers. We were extremely dissatisfied with the results. Within a few years the windows needed painting again. What’s more, the paints contained solvents such as turpentine and other additives that adversely affected our health.

This was the start of our quest to find out more about traditional painting methods: what they did and why, what materials were available, in what grades? We wondered why windows and doors from 1700 and up to the year 1950 have lasted longer than those from the latter half of the 20th century.

Our goal has been to investigate forgotten knowledge about linseed oil paints, expertise developed over the course of many hundred years and up to modern times, when they were replaced by plastic-based and alkyd paints.

In running our own business concerned with the care and maintenance of buildings, we have determinedly worked towards the development of materials that fulfil all our requirements in respect of technical properties, drying time, eco-friendliness, storage properties, ease of maintenance, attractiveness and economy.

Traditional European skills and ancient wisdom in combination with modern production techniques have enabled the development of a totally new generation of linseed oil products that do not require solvents at any stage of their use.

Allback Zinc Oxide

Allback Zinc Oxide is important to ensure that you add Zinc Oxide, when applying the first coat of Allback Linseed Paint on external surfaces. This should not exceed 20% (parts per volume) of the first coat of paint. The purpose of the Zinc Oxide is to create a barrier against possible mould growth. Please ensure the paint is mixed thoroughly to avoid drying problems, its application should be worked onto the timber very thinly and thoroughly. It is only necessary to add this to the first initial coat of paint, however, it can also be added to any subsequent coats and will not greatly affect the colour of the paint if mixed correctly.

For existing painted surfaces where mould growth has become apparent, clean the surface with Linseed Soap and apply one more coat of the original paint, including Zinc Oxide.

Silent Paint Remover - Speed Heater

Silent Paint Remover (Speed Heater) is used and favoured by Allback in their own workshop in Sweden for removing old paint, varnish, and glue. It is fast, efficient, and safe, heating from the inside out and minimizing lead vapours and dust. It is built on Swedish design principles: high-quality and totally functional with no unnecessary parts. The Silent Paint Remover is designed for hand-held use, but the threaded attachment points at either end of the unit allow for a wide range of creative hands-free options.

The Silent Paint Remover uses infrared rays to warm paint and wood for easy stripping. The process is safe with no lead fumes and clean with little paint dust. The resulting wood surface is bare and immediately ready for priming and painting. No other paint removal method can achieve these high-quality results with so few steps. The infrared rays bring the natural wood resins back up to the wood surface to rejuvenate it. This method also reduces the risk of fire, environmental damage, and clean up time.
